Accessing Encyclopedia Britannica
Scoilnet now offers teachers the option to log-in from home to access Encyclopedia Britannica which is licensed for use on the School Broadband Network (SBN). Click here for further instructions on how to log-in to Encyclopedia Britannica from home.
via the School Broadband Network (SBN)
Without a Username/Pasword Encyclopedia Britannica is restricted to those schools on the School Broadband Network (SBN). If you are not on the SBN you won’t get access and nothing will happen when you click on the Britannica icons on scoilnet or you will get the message in the screen shot below. If you get the message below you can click on More about the service and this will bring you to a page where you can click on the icon link or you can type in the url directly
If access is denied a Britannica Online School Edition logon page will be displayed.
Any schools that can get onto Britannica directly but not through scoilnet should call up the following page http://www.scoilnet.com/testip.aspx and send a screenshot of the results to the scoilnet team
If the school can not get onto Britannica directly they must check their IP address to see if it falls within the SBN IP Address Range. They do this by calling up the web page http://whatismyipaddress.com/ to see what IP address the internet thinks they are using, this can be different to their local IP address. If their IP Address is within the SBN IP Address Range and access to Britannica is denied they should email this IP address to firstname.lastname@example.org
