Scoilnet Web Hosting

Web-hosting is a service provided to schools as part of the Schools Broadband programme. It is a free, high-quality web-hosting service that allows schools to publish static content quickly and securely to the World Wide Web.

Webhosting Design

The core of the web-hosting system is the Scoilnet LDAP directory.

  • You should replace school1 with your school's Online Name.

Backups

Backups of content are made automatically each night.

Directory Structure

Upon logging into the webhosting service, the user is presented with a folder, the name of which is the website domain (i.e. school1.scoilnet.ie ). The contents of this directory is the contents of the school1.scoilnet.ie website. This is where you should copy your website files.

Migration of Existing Web Page

A tool to facilitate the migration of existing web sites hosted by Eircom will be made available through the control panel

Can I use this service to host other websites?

Yes, but only if they are directly related to the school. A request should be made to the NCTE Service Desk. The new website can either be an alias to the existing school1.scoilnet.ie website, or can have a seperate directory pointing to it.

How much storage is available?

At the moment, there are no quotas in place, and no plans to implement a quota system. However, file uploads are monitored, and abuse will be dealt with.
