What Do The Buttons Mean

Every wondererd what all the buttons on the editor in your blog do.

Below is an explanation of the buttons you will find on the text editor when you are creating or editing your posts and pages.


Unordered Numbering

UnorderedNumbering.PNG Lists follow a common skeleton every time — an outer container tag, and a new tag for each bullet. Observe:

  • Item 1
  • Item 2

Undo

Undo.PNG The undo button will allow you to cancel the last change you made to the text i.e. if you accientally delete some text you could press the undo button and the text shoudl re-appear.

Underline

Underline.PNG The underline button is a way to highlight some text by putting a line underneath it. Simple select existing text and hit the button and it will become underlined or alternatively hit the underline button and start typing and from then on everything you type will be underlined.

Obeserve: This sentance has one word underlined.

StrikeThrough

StrikeThrough.PNG Strikethrough (also called strikeout) is a typographical presentation of words with a horizontal line through the center of them. Simple select existing text and hit the button and it will become strikedthrough or alternatively hit the strikethrough button and start typing and from then on everything you type will be strikedthrough. Here is an example. The word strikethrough should have a line through it.

ShowHideAdvancedEditing

ShowHideAdvancedEditing.PNG This button will show/hide some of the more advanced formatting buttons that are available for you to use for formatting your blog entries i.e. Text Colour, Size etc.

RightJusity

RightJusity.PNG The text is aligned along the right margin or gutter, also known as ragged left. Simply slect some exisiting text and hit the button and it will be aligned along the right hand side or alternatively hit the button first and everything you type will from then on be aligned to the right hand side.

RunSpellCheck

RunSpellCheck.PNG The blog text editor has an inbuilt spell checker, which can be used to fine misspelled words or phrases. This should be used always to ensure the legibility of your work. Simply click the button and it will check the text you have typed and highlight any mistakes you have made.

It also had the ability to check multiple languages. When you click the button an drop down menu will appear and you can select another language to use to check for correct spelling.

RemoveFormatting

RemoveFormatting.PNG You can use this button to remove and formatting from text you have previously formatted i.e. If you select some underlined text and hit this button the underline formatting will be removed from the text.

Redo

Redo.PNG This is a handy function which is the opposite from undo. It can be used to undo an undo i.e. if you delete some text and press the undo button the text will re-appear then if you were to press the redo button the text will be deleted again.

PasteFromWord

PasteFromWord.PNG This allows you to copy text from Microsoft Word documents and retain the formatting that was used in the word document.

PasteAsPlain

PasteAsPlain.PNG This will paste text into the blog from another source and remove all formatting information that was previously applied to that text.

OrderedNumbering

OrderedNumbering.PNG An ordered list is a HTML element for a list of items where each item is automatically prefixed by an indication of its position in the list.

LeftJustify

LeftJustify.PNG The text is aligned along the left margin or gutter, also known as ragged right. Italics

Italics.PNG This buttons is used to apply italic style to text. It can be used to emphazie words

InsertMoreTag

InsertMoreTag.PNG This is a very handy feature of you blog. If you press this button you will see a 'more' line appear in your text, as shown below This truncates the amount of text that is shown on the main page for the post / page and after a certain amount of characters inserts a link wiht the text 'Read the rest of this entry >'. The user has to then click this link to read the rest of the text. This is a useful way to control the amount of text that gets displayed on the main page.

InsertCustomCharacter

InsertCustomCharacter.PNG This will let you insert non-standard characters into the text of your page / post. When you click the button you will be presented with a popup from which you can select a non-standard character to insert into your text.

IndentToRight

IndentToRight.PNG By pressing this button you will move every character in the paragraph to the next tab setting (to the right) By default, it will move it by half an inch.

IndentToLeft

IndentToLeft.PNG By pressing this button you will move every character in the paragraph to the next tab setting (to the left) By default, it will move it by half an inch.

GoFullScreen

GoFullScreen.PNG This will expand the text editing section to occupy the full size of your browser window.

FontSize

FontSize.PNG This dropdown box can be used to select increased or decreased font sizes fmro the predefined sizes available to use.

FontColor

FontColor.PNG This dropdown box can be used to select a different font colour for you to use. If you click the more colours button a popup window will appear, from which you can choose from the entire colour palette available.

CreateLink

CreateLink.PNG This is used to create a hyperlink (a clickable link to another webpage). Simple select the text you want to make as the link then press this button. A popup window will appear which lets you enter the web page address that you want to user to go to when they click the link.
